Appearance: Lyserg's looks can be accurately described with two simple words: eccentric and effeminate. The first is supported by both the shape and color of his hair, and the way he dresses. His forest green hair is styled in a most peculiar fashion, so that his frontal bangs fall easily over his forehead, away from his eyes, while the back is spiked out to the sides of his head like thorns. His attire can almost be considered a homage to the famous fictional detective, Sherlock Holmes, as he casually sports a green knitted cloak overlapping a long sleeved button-down shirt and dark navy blue pants that are suspended with a belt just above his slender waste. Lyserg's gender is often mistaken for female, as everything from the shape of his firm, curvy and delicate body to the soft tone of his voice is heavily feminine. It is also worth noting that he always wears an odd metal device attached and secured to his right arm which essentially serves as a launcher for his spirit-guided dowsing pendulum.

Personality: Initially, Lyserg may come off as an innocent, jolly, and humble young man, but it won't be long after first impressions wear off before a deeper showcase of his character traits are displayed. Having lost his beloved mother and father to the merciless infamed Shaman Hao Asakura, the focus of all his motives have become solely fixed on revenge. Lyserg holds an intense burning passion to avenge his parents and kill Hao for his evil deeds, but because of Hao's seemingly infinite spiritual strength, has become hopelessly desperate in searching for a means to actually accomplish his goal. Lyserg is extremely vindictive, and will literally do almost anything it takes to extract his revenge. He is a firm believer in the end justifying the means, and will readily sacrifice the innocent lives of others to put an ultimate end to Hao. While claiming his cause would preserve more people from Hao's wrath in the long run if he were to become Shaman King; it is set in his heart that his own selfish vengefulness takes high priority over the safety and future of the world at large.

Abilities/Strengths: First and foremost, Lyserg is a Shaman; someone who can see, interact and form spiritual bonds with other worldly creatures. On top of that, Lyserg is a skilled dowser - a person who is able to locate people, water or any other hidden object using such items as metal rods and pendulums. Once the designated energy is detected, it can be dowsed for virtually anywhere. What makes Lyserg's dowsing abilities significantly more effective and impressive is his crafty and masterful usage of the Oversoul technique with his crystal pendulum as a medium. His main spirit, Morphin, empowers and guides the crystal to attack or seek out whatever he designates. His strategy serves as both a strong offense as well as a reliable defense, as the wire that connects the crystal weapon to the launching device on his arm is compellingly long and travels at unimaginable speeds, with Morphin at the cockpit. This means that he can utilize the crystal as either a lethal weapon or a distracting obstacle to guard him from enemy attacks.

Weaknesses: Although he looks weak and vulnerable, Lyserg can defend himself efficiently. His true weakness and vulnerability lie within the psychology of his mind. Lyserg can be cocky at times, and in his desperation, do and say things that will get him in over his head. Additionally, he is emotionally unstable, making it quite easy to take advantage of him in battle or in a variety of other advantageous scenarios, by pushing the right buttons.

Notable Possessions: His most notable possession is the mechanical device on his right arm that serves as a launcher for his pendulum. Inside is a sharp crystal shard that is attached to a long wire that can be manipulated through the use of his dowsing talents and spirit control.

History: Lyserg's father was an English dowsing detective named Liam Diethel, who was also a shaman. He used Morphin, the spirit of a poppy flower which was passed down from generation to generation in the Diethel family, to effectively advance his dowsing abilities. Liam was very gifted in the art of dowsing; so much that nothing ever got passed his eye, and there was nothing he could not locate. As a child, Lyserg looked up to his father as an idol and a role model; aspiring to be just as skilled in the fields of dowsing and detecting as he was. He practiced and practiced for years before he was finally given a test at age six that would challenge his knowledge of dowsing. He would have to find the key to a cage that held the spirit Morphin inside, in order to unlock it and gain her as his guardian. While the challenge proved difficult, he was able to find the key within Big Ben, the famous clock in London.

Unfortunately, when Lyserg arrived home the day he graduated as a dowser, he would only encounter the wrathful and evil presence of Hao Asakura, who had burned down his home, his family burned with it. This experience would haunt Lyserg for years to come, as he swore to extract ultimate revenge against Hao and eliminate him completely. He sought out to become Shaman King, in order to become strong enough to avenge his parents' deaths.
